Izzi's Experience at Mind Over Mountains: Slowing Down and Taking Time to Prioritise Mental Health

The walk helped me to realise that slowing down is not a weakness – in fact, it is necessary. It reminded me that my mental health matters just as much. Taking time for yourself, especially in nature and in a setting that feels safe and supportive, is something we all need more of.

Izzi's Experience at Mind Over Mountains: Slowing Down and Taking Time to Prioritise Mental Health

I first heard about Mind Over Mountains through my mum. She came across the hike at work and thought it might be something meaningful for us to do together. With everything going on in both of our lives recently, it felt like the right opportunity to step outside our routines and reconnect – with ourselves, with each other, and with nature.

Snowdon is on mine and my mum’s to-do list, but we felt it might be a bit much to take on straight away, so this 10-mile walk felt like a perfect first step.

Honestly, I did not have many concerns going in. My biggest focus was making sure my mum had a positive experience and got what she needed from the day.

For me personally, life is usually fast paced and demanding. I am a professional Muay Thai fighter, and alongside training full time, I balance two part time jobs. It can be intense – mentally, emotionally, and physically. The pressures that come with fighting and trying to be at your best all the time really build up. Booking onto this event was about pressing pause, and carving out space to reflect, breathe, and just be present – something I do not often get to do.

The walk helped me to realise that slowing down is not a weakness – in fact, it is necessary. As someone who is constantly on the go, I have often pushed my mental needs aside in favour of physical performance or productivity. But this experience reminded me that my mental health matters just as much. Taking time for yourself, especially in nature and in a setting that feels safe and supportive, is something we all need more of.

If I were to describe the walk in three words, they would be: calming, reflective,

needed. It brought me a sense of peace that I had not realised I was missing, gave me space to reflect without pressure, and reminded me how important it is to prioritise myself too.

I would absolutely recommend Mind Over Mountains to anyone, especially those feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or simply in need of some time away from the chaos of everyday life. It is not just a walk – it is a chance to reconnect, to be still, and to feel supported by people who truly understand the importance of mental wellbeing. The balance between nature, coaching, and calm conversations is something really special.

The experience has stayed with me beyond the day itself. I have already started looking into more of the events Mind Over Mountains offer, and I have spoken about it on my social media, encouraging others to check it out too. It has sparked conversations with friends and training partners about mental health – conversations we do not always have. I have realised that taking care of your mind is not just something you do when things get really bad – it is something that should be part of your lifestyle, just like fitness or nutrition. And now, I am actively making space for that.
