About us
How we work
Mind Over Mountains is an award winning charity, founded in 2020 by adventurer, speaker and mental health advocate Alex Staniforth, & Chris Spray, an international leadership consultant and trainer. Together, they created our innovative approach, which brings together walking in nature, mindfulness & professional coaching and counselling in support of good mental health & wellbeing.
Alex continues to be a trustee of the charity, combining a life of adventure & ultra challenges, motivational speaking & advocacy for our work. Chris has now stepped back from his involvement in the charity to focus on his consultancy career – but remains an active fundraiser & advocate for us. We are grateful to both of them for all they have done to bring these innovative responses to mental ill health to fruition!
Mind Over Mountains now has a small but passionate team - and won the Charity Initiative of the Year award at the National Outdoor Show - of which we are immensely proud!
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England.
1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England.
We enable people to restore and sustain their mental health and wellbeing through programmes that bring together walking in nature, mindfulness, & specialist coaching & counselling.
Our innovative approach is research-backed & supported by the New Economics Foundation’s nationally recognised Five Ways to Wellbeing. Our programmes deliver significant and sustained benefits to mental health & we are working hard both to demonstrate those outcomes & advocate for changes in the way the UK responds to mental health. Our vision is for nature- & activity-based mental health interventions to be the norm, commissioned & prescribed by the NHS, & accessible to all.
We live & breathe our values – we are compassionate, empowering, adventurous, committed, evidence-based & collaborative.
