Why Your Fundraising Challenge Matters

Why Your Fundraising Challenge Matters

With more people than ever suffering with mental health issues in the UK, our work here at Mind Over Mountains is more vital than ever - and the hard work of our fundraisers is at the core of it all. Put simply, without our fundraisers, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

The whole team at Mind over Mountains appreciates and celebrates every single fundraiser who supports us. Read on to find out why we believe that every fundraising challenge is equal, right down to the very last penny raised.

Mental health issues are on the rise

more adults in the UK are suffering with mental health issues

More and more people in the UK are seeking help and support for mental health issues, with a recent survey finding that one in seven adults report their mental health as ‘bad, or the worst it’s ever been’. And that’s the tip of the iceberg. According to the NHS, 1.93 million people sought help from mental health services in March 2024, and  across the country, Google searches for ‘How to reduce stress’ are currently taking place every ten minutes - closely followed by searches for information on anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.

Safe to say, our work here at Mind Over Mountains is more vital than ever - and the hard work of our fundraisers is at the core of it all. Put simply, without our fundraisers, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

What we do

Think of us as your natural health service! We’re pretty unique in what we offer, believing that while traditional approaches to therapy and mental health care are essential for some, there are also alternative approaches that can be beneficial to many. Namely, walk and talk therapy. But we go one step further, taking it into the beautiful outdoors.

walk and talk therapy at Mind Over Mountains

We believe in the power of walking in nature, with others and alongside our trained coaches and counsellors. Implementing mindfulness techniques whilst being surrounded by the sound of birdsong, the rustle of leaves in trees and the sun warming the back of your neck. This, combined with the known benefits of physical activity is what makes our events special.

Our walks and retreats give participants the chance to talk, not just with trained coaches and counsellors, but with others in similar situations too. Being able to make these connections - to nature, to others - is pretty powerful in helping to restore and sustain mental health and wellbeing.

We truly believe that the UK needs to change the way it responds to mental health, and that’s where you come in…

Every fundraising challenge is equal

It doesn’t need to be a five-day hike up a mountain in a far-off land. It doesn’t even need to be an active challenge if you simply can’t manage it. A sponsored silence shouts just as loudly, and makes just as much of an impact to our small charity. Why? Because it’s what brings you to Mind Over Mountains that matters.

Whatever inspires you to take on a challenge. Whatever motivates you, even when you feel like giving up. Whatever reason you have for choosing us… thank you. Your challenge - no matter how big, or how small - is special, and your supporters will know that. Whether your goal is 5 miles, or 500 miles, you’ve made the pledge to help others, and that’s amazing.

How you help us

We rely on our fundraisers so that we can continue to host our walks and retreats. Without their support, we can’t offer the vital help that so many need, and benefit hugely from. And every single penny can make such a huge difference.

A donation of £50 can help to fund one person’s place on a wellbeing walk - offering them the chance to talk openly about their feelings, and to feel a little less alone in their struggle. £250 can help to fund a place on a wellbeing retreat, enabling us to connect further with those who need our support.

But equally, smaller donations of £1, £2, £5 all mean the world to us, and the people we’re able to help as a result. Every single donation takes us one step further towards our goal: to reach the people who need us, to provide them with the tools they need to nurture their own wellbeing, and to make nature and activity-based therapy accessible to all.
