Ian Boyd
Chief Executive
Ian brings over two decades of experience in the charity and community development sector, with a career dedicated to empowering people and communities to thrive. Before joining Mind Over Mountains, he served as Chief Executive of the national peer support charity Self Help UK, CEO of the Notts County Foundation and Managing Director at the young adults cancer support charity, Trekstock. He has also held senior positions and trustee roles across a wide range of organisations focused on social change, youth work, and community wellbeing.
A qualified professional Youth & Community worker since 2005, Ian began his career on the frontline, working directly with young people and marginalised communities. This grounding continues to shape his values-led leadership style and his belief in the transformative power of connection, purpose, and opportunity. He is deeply passionate about creating systems and spaces that enable people to live well, and believes that nature, physical activity, and shared experiences are among the most powerful tools we have for sustaining mental health.
A committed advocate for nature-based wellbeing, Ian is an ultramarathon runner and lifelong outdoors enthusiast. He has completed numerous endurance challenges, including the 100km Race to the Stones, and sees time spent walking, running, or exploring wild places as essential to his own mental and physical resilience.
Ian lives in the Midlands with his wife and two daughters. Away from work, he can often be found behind a drum kit, supporting his beloved Aston Villa, or exploring the hills, trails, and coastlines of the UK and beyond with his family.
